Running a More Successful Practice – Part 2

Running a more successful medical practice includes maximizing patient workflow and staff productivity. Tracking your patients accurately and efficiently is an integral component. Using the correct software system enables your practice to maximize its efforts towards tracking patients most effectively and increases staff productivity.

Keys to tracking patients more efficiently and boosting staff productivity

  • It is important to note the differences between patients coming from marketing campaigns or physician referrals and to be able to track and report the two separately or against each other. This will assist with maximizing your efforts towards growing your patient count.
  • Minimize patient “no-shows” and eliminate revenue lost from canceled/missed appointments by utilizing your scheduling software to track and manage your patient’s appointments. Using this data with the correct system will help practices identify patient trends to better foresee and plan accordingly.
  • By tracking previous patient scheduled activity, practices can assign reminders/alerts to patients who are more likely to cancel or miss in order to more accurately gauge patient volume. This greatly benefits the practice by helping them schedule both patients and staff more appropriately based on previous trends.
  • The best software systems enable staff to check and verify patient eligibility on the day of or even before the scheduled appointment. Doing so reduces wasted staff and patient time while increasing time for patient care.
  • Use your software system to your advantage and assign tasks/reminders for providers and staff alike. These system “alerts” can be custom tailored to fit a wide range of uses from past patient scheduling activity to provider verification/signage requirements for submissions.
  • Patient portals will also help reduce wasted time by allowing patients to request and obtain medical information securely and electronically, from the comfort of their own home. Patients can also request appointments through the portal and receive notifications of said appointments.
