“We’ve been using AMS Practice Management Plus and have always been satisfied with it. The Medical Office Management System allows smooth billing and electronic filing of claims. There is great flexibility in tracking of many aspects of the financial details of our practice. We can follow up on the status of insurance claims to ensure that outstanding charges are tracked down and dealt with.
The Electronic Medical Records allows for rapid access to progress notes and patient date, both to ensure proper follow up, and to allow transmission of appropriate records to other providers involved in a patient’s care. It is very easy to create templates that fit our practice (e.g. Diabetic Follow-up Note, Acute Respiratory Complaint Note, Phone Calls), which makes each patient encounter much more efficient. The EMR is flexible, and can be used in different ways to suite different practice styles. Printing out prescriptions is very rapid. With a file of common prescriptions, refilling a number of prescriptions for a patient can be accomplished with just a few keystrokes/mouse points, rather than tedious rewriting of paper prescriptions. The possibility of medication errors is greatly reduced.
The Appointment Processing Module makes it easy to schedule patients and search for past or future appointments, without the need to flip through pages and pages of appointments on paper. I often schedule patients for their follow up visits while I sit with them. I can easily block out time for vacation myself, so that patients are not accidentally scheduled while I am going to be away. It is easy to track patients who have missed appointments and their reasons for doing so.
I often use to the Handheld Pocket PC Module to see my schedule when out of the office (e.g. while talking to a patient while on call, to see when they might be able to come in). I am still growing into the module, but as I expand the memory on my Pocket PC, I plan to keep basic data about the patients (e.g. problems, meds) available as well. It is also possible to bill “on the fly” while in the hospital at the time the patient is seen, rather than having to remember to do it when returning to the office.
One final note—technical support is excellent. The AMS folk are easy to talk to and have been able to walk us through any problems (despite our comparative lack of technical savvy) without losing their patience.”
