Suggested Small Office Hardware Configuration

This configuration is based on a small network of up to 5 computers and one workstation is being used as a server.

Please Note: Any computer purchased within the past 2 years will MOST LIKELY meet the minimum system requirements for your AMS Product. If you are unsure if you meet the requirements or wish to verify that you do, speak with your AMS representative to assist you with confirmation.

Small Office Hardware Requirements as of 10/4/2011

American Medical Software runs on both 32 bit and 64 bit Windows® operating systems.

Additional products from Pervasive Software are necessary prior to installation of the AMS software. Version 10.30 or higher of Pervasive is the required minimum. Offices with 5 computers or less require the Pervasive PSQLWorkgroup Engine. Pervasive products are available to AMS clients at a discount from Goldstar Software. Contact Bill Bach or Mary Jo Van Sipma at 708-647-7665 or sales@goldstarsoftware.com. Helpful hints for installing and using the AMS system with Pervasive PSQL are available at http://www.goldstarsoftware.com/apps_ams.asp.

SERVER REQUIREMENTS (for the workstation designated to be the server)

• Microsoft® Windows 7, Windows XP Professional/Home (Service Pack 3), Windows Vista (Service Pack 2), Windows 2003 Server (Service Pack 1), or Windows Server 2008. Other Windows operating systems are not supported due to Microsoft support termination
• Pervasive PSQL v10.30 Workgroup Engine is required
• Intel Core2 Duo L-8400, AMD Athlon 64 3200+ or better. Quad Core Q9400 (recommended)
• 2 GB RAM (4GB recommended for Vista or higher)
• 200+ GB of free hard drive space
• 1024 x 768 resolution at 16-bit color depth or higher required
• 24x CD-ROM or better
• Computers MUST use US Standard MM/DD/YYYY date format
• Windows language must be set to English (U.S.)

WORKSTATION REQUIREMENTS (for other workstations)

• Microsoft Windows® 7, Windows XP Professional/Home (Service Pack 3), or Vista (Service Pack 2)
• Pervasive PSQL v10.30 Workgroup Engine required
• AMD Athlon 1640B or better (Dual Core will improve Performance)
• 1 GB RAM (2GB recommended for Vista)
• 40 GB Free disk space
• 1024 x 768 resolution at 16-bit color depth or higher required
• Computers MUST use US Standard MM/DD/YYYY date format
• Windows language must be set to English (U.S.)

Laptops and Tablet PC’s

• Laptops would have the same requirements as shown above
• Tablet PC’s should be using the Windows® 7, XP or Vista Tablet PC Edition operating system
• Sample Tablet PCs:

ThinkPad X Series Convertible Tablets (www.lenovo.com)

HP EliteBook 2760p Tablet PC (www.hp.com)

Networking

• TCP/IP Protocol
• 100Mbps Network Interface Card capable of supporting full-duplex operations
• All workstations must have Full Control NTFS permissions and Full Control share permissions to the AMS Data folder

Wireless

Administrators should choose only routers that have WPA2 encryption capabilities. WPA2 contains the necessary security to ensure PHI is not compromised (i.e. 256-bit AES encryption, SHA-1 hashing, password/key authentication).

Peripherals

• For the printing of statements and the various forms generated by the AMS software, the HP LaserJet P3000 or 4000 Series printers are recommended. Inkjet printers, non-HP laserjet printers, dot matrix printers and HP LaserJet 1000 Series printers are not supported.
• For Electronic Claims Processing and downloading AMS Updates, an internet connection is required. A broadband internet connection such as DSL or Cable/Modem is highly recommended.
• The Electronic Medical Records Scanning Interface works with most TWAIN compliant scanners, or scanner like the Fujitsu ScanSnap, capable of creating standard Windows® images.

Power Interruptions

Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) – AMS requires our client’s Information Technology (IT) professional to properly install and configure a UPS on the client’s server computer which has an interface to that server computer which will, in the event of an extended power loss, start a shutdown sequence within Windows prior to total power failure.  As part of the Microsoft Windows shutdown sequence a stop command is sent to the Pervasive service running on the server which closes all active transactions to the database and gracefully ends the Pervasive Database Engine.   This will help prevent data corruption or loss due to AC power failure in addition to extending the life and reliability of the connected server hardware and operating system.  Consult your IT Professional to help determine the required runtime and capacity of the UPS to allow enough time to properly execute the shutdown procedure.

Backups

• For backing up the AMS data files, USB Flash drives are highly recommended due to their durability and versatility. Tape Backups are an acceptable backup media but the proprietary backup software necessary to use them is not supported by AMS.

Note: Because of the limited life cycle and reliability of CDs, DVDs, CD-RWs, and DVD-RWs, they are NOT the most superior storage media devices for backing up your system. External Hard Drives are not recommended.

Please Note: AMS does not support the implementation or maintenance of computer hardware. AMS will only provide assistance with issues originating from or through its software products.

*Final configuration should comply with the AMS Advanced Hardware Requirements available on the AMS Website at http://americanmedical.com/resources/hardware-requirements/advanced-configuration
